Obituary for Brother Larry Gene Couser, PM Oso Naval Lodge 1250

CC Caller-Times, Tuesday September 29, page 3B, “Service set for Ray alum”
Thanks to Bro. Herbert Arbuckle and Wolfgang Buschang, there is a fine little article about Larry. It starts, “The community is invited to a memorial service…” and it goes on to tell that the service is at Oso Naval Lodge on Saturday at 11 AM
The last information sent to Hiram’s followers was: Obituary for Brother Couser, furnished by Brother Herbert Arbuckle, in collaboration with Brother Wolfgang Buschang and WM Russell Keyes.
Larry Gene Couser, age 73, of Corpus Christi, TX passed from this earthly life into eternal rest on August 7, 2015. He was born November 20, 1941 to Clifford and Ruby Woodall Couser in Kleberg County, TX. He led a purposeful life as a teacher and law enforcement officer. Dearest to Larry’s heart were his family, his profession, his friends, and his 4 legged children. Larry was a member of 1959 W. B. Ray State Championship Football team. Upon graduating from W. B. Ray in 1960, he received a 4 year scholarship to play football at Baylor where he excelled. After he graduated from Baylor, Larry spent a short time in the Radio and Television Broadcasting Business, but quickly returned to his hometown of Corpus Christi. He began his 37-year teaching/coaching career with CCISD, which he held until his retirement in 2000. Over the years, Larry was also employed as a constable with Nueces County and Aransas County and would regale friends with his humorous stories of both the classroom and the characters he encountered on his job as a constable. Larry had many hobbies throughout the years: he was an avid hunter and had just recently visited Montana to take part in a mule deer and elk hunt. He took great pride in sharing his hunting stories.
Larry was a member and revered and respected Past Master of Oso Naval Masonic Lodge No. 1282, A.F.&A.M.; the Corpus Christi York Rite Bodies, where he became a Knight Templar, receiving the Order of the Temple on February 28, 1998; the San Antonio Scottish Rite, where he became a 32-degree Mason on October 4, 1997; and of Al Amin Shrine in Corpus Christi, where he for years was a member of the Provost Guard.
Larry was a man who could be counted on. He always faced life head on and even in the most difficult of situations never failed to keep his sense of humor. When diagnosed with ALS in the latter part of 2014, he was inspirational in his courage and fortitude. Never uttering a word of self-pity Larry stoically set about making arrangements to benefit his family and to ensure the care of his pets: Emma, Itzy, Zach, Olivia, and Chigger.
Larry is now reunited with his parents, brother Don, and wife, Ann. Left behind to treasure his memories are his daughters Debbie Couser Portwood and Alicia Couser Wieding, grandchildren Cameron Portwood, Chase Portwood, Claire Portwood, Kiley Wieding, Ryland Wieding, and Allie Wieding, and many friends and Brothers.
Special thanks to caretaker Amalo De La Pena, Wolfgang Buschang, and Dale Rasco and his staff at Doddridge Animal Clinic. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Baylor University, ALS Association, Shriner’s Hospitals for Children or donor’s choice.
A Memorial Service for Larry will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at the Oso Naval Masonic Lodge 3215 Reid Drive Corpus Christi at 11:00 a.m.
